Meet the team

Heath is our founder and Managing Director, with 30 years’ experience in construction throughout New Zealand, Australia, and the United Kingdom. With an Advanced National Certificate in Carpentry, and a Building Practitioner License, Heath has the final say on the quality of each project we deliver, whether it is a fit out, base build, or seismic strengthening job.

Heath’s vast industry knowledge, combined with his personable approach, are the reasons McKay Lang has grown exponentially since its inception. As our Head of Sales, Heath’s attention is focused on growing our team and extending our reach – a challenge that he approaches with much enthusiasm.

As our Senior Quantity Surveyor, Sam is committed to pricing projects competitively and accurately, as well as seeing jobs through from pre-construction to final sign-off.

To each new project, Sam brings over ten years of commercial quantity surveying experience, along with a New Zealand qualification in construction management. His time on site as a builder has given him a uniquely well-balanced understanding of construction from both practical and financial perspectives.

With a portfolio running the length of the country, Sam is especially resourceful and is driven by building relationships in a range of different locations.

Aileen manages all aspects of finance at McKay Lang, as well as everything else that keeps the business ticking over. Bolstered by her previous years’ experience in high-level financial management, Aileen runs our systems with the utmost care and precision.

To the benefit of all our clients, Aileen provides a clear and comprehensive financial view of each project, from start to finish.

On a broader level, Aileen continues to upskill and improve her knowledge, with the growth of McKay Lang always in full focus.

Luke joined the McKay Lang team in late 2025, bringing with him over 20 years’ practical experience as a carpenter and joiner, plus further project and operations management expertise.

While his role is exceptionally varied, Luke’s overarching purpose is to drive our team to achieve high-quality results, and to provide the means for us to get there. His role in analysing and refining our day-to-day processes ensures that we are able to improve our performance, year after year.

Project Manager, Ben, brings 25 years industry experience to McKay Lang, along with a National Certificate in Carpentry and PRINCE2 Practitioner in Project Management Certificate. His commitment to running projects seamlessly is second to none.
Additionally, Ben oversees our in-house joinery production; his attention to detail and exacting standards are essential in an industry where there is very little room for error.

The flagship Miele showroom in Christchurch holds pride of place at McKay Lang, and was nominated at the NZ Shopfitting Awards. This fitout is a fantastic example of Ben’s workmanship and management.

With UK and NZ experience in building, construction management, and project management, Dane is vital to the success of our projects. He holds his NZ LBP qualification, paired with extensive knowledge of the current building code and legislation.
Although he is now office-based, Dane’s first project with McKay Lang was a mammoth undertaking at the Maruia Hot Springs – a logistical and technical challenge, carried out with the finesse we’ve come to expect from Dane.

Shannon is one of McKay Lang’s longest serving staff, with an undeniable commitment to every aspect of her work. She has nearly 15 years’ experience in the construction industry, across insurance, contract management, project coordination, operations, and now estimating and quantity surveying.

We rely on Shannon for her strong analytical skills, from big picture concepts, through to minute details. Her breadth of industry knowledge is an incredible asset for clients and colleagues alike.

In recent years, Shannon has worked on notable fit out projects at Christchurch International Airport, as well as multiple ASB Bank South Island sites, St Pierres Sushi locations, and the Burger King ‘25/’26 brand refresh across Christchurch.

With over 40 years’ experience in sales, project management, estimating, and quantity surveying, Jack really is our Jack-of-all-trades! In his role as Quantity Surveyor, Jack has priced projects for recognised brands such as Burger King and St Pierres Sushi, as well as multiple high-profile fit outs at Christchurch International Airport.

Jack’s connections in the construction industry are a real asset for our quantity surveying team. His accuracy, eye for detail, and proactive attitude towards pricing are absolutely indispensable.

Well known across the industry, our Joinery Manager Neil is incredibly skilled, with a reputation for producing flawless, world-class pieces. In this leadership role, we rely on Neil to oversee pricing, procurement, design, production, deliveries, and the day-to-day organisation of the factory. Neil’s role in providing guidance to other staff is crucial in developing the next generation of joiners and cabinetmakers.

Some of Neil’s standout projects include Summit Bar at Christchurch Airport, Sherpa’s commercial office, Motus Physiotherapy in Lincoln, and Majestic Cafe at Westfield Riccarton.

Nik is a talented site foreman, with twenty years’ experience in the construction industry. His calm and measured approach, along with wide-ranging industry knowledge makes Nik a vital and reliable member of the McKay Lang team.

With work experience in Canada and New Zealand, Nik is highly adaptable and a fantastic communicator.

His recent works include major seismic strengthening projects, as well as numerous fit outs for well-known brands such as Maki Mono, Flight Centre, and Austen & Blake.

Our experienced Site Foreman, Rick, has gathered extensive building and shopfitting knowledge from his 20-plus years in the industry. He holds a National Certificate in Carpentry and has worked nationwide across a variety of commercial fitouts.

Rick’s project portfolio is truly impressive! In recent years, he has undertaken fit outs for Milford Sound Lodge & Chalets, Cotton On Group, Merivale Plastic Surgery, Asics, and Christchurch International Airport. Rick’s problem-solving skills, eye for detail, and safety-conscious attitude has won him a great deal of praise.

As one of our Site Foremen since 2025, James had led numerous impressive projects, including refurbishments of multiple Burger King locations, the fit out of Motus Physiotherapy in Lincoln, and the stunning Majestic Cafe at Westfield Riccarton.

James’ work is precise, carefully considered, and exceptionally tidy – which is not easy to achieve in an industry that moves so quickly. James leads with a steady and reliable presence on site, winning him praise from clients and colleagues alike.

As one of our Small Works Foremen, Chris takes the reins on a variety of commercial projects. The jobs may be shorter in duration, but they are no less complex than some of our full-scale fit outs, requiring a suitably experienced foreman’s attention. Chris handles the many moving parts of his role with a proactive and purposeful attitude.

In the past year alone, Chris has worked on a raft of ASB Banks across the South Island, Te Pae Convention Centre, Milford Sound Lodge chalets, and several major shopping centres around Christchurch.

Adam is a long-serving member of the McKay Lang team, with dozens of projects to his name…almost too many to mention! In recent years, Adam has completed interior fit outs, structural strengthening, de-fits, joinery, capex works, and preventative maintenance.

Adam is the ultimate team player – always keen to contribute to a problem-solving discussion, or happy to lend a hand to bring a project over the finish line.

Geri has worked in multiple roles at McKay Lang since 2021. Her current role in marketing sees her promoting our work across social media and advertising platforms, creating original content, and helping to identify opportunities for connection across our industry. In addition to this, she assists the Quantity Surveying team in shaping the non-priced portions of our project bids.

In this hybrid role, Geri also assists our financial controller in managing the day-to-day finances at McKay Lang.
