Meet our team of industry experts who are ready to go above and beyond to make sure your next project exceeds expectations. Coming from a variety of backgrounds, our team covers every aspect of fit-out or build to take you from start to finish.
Heath McKay
Managing Director
Heath is our founder and Managing Director, with 30 years experience in construction throughout New Zealand, Australia, and the United Kingdom.
Specialising in commercial construction, shop fitouts and structural strengthening, Heath’s attention to detail allows him to identify issues as they arise and prior to them becoming ‘problems’.
Holding an Advanced NZ National Certificate in Carpentry and, as a current Licenced Building Practitioner, Heath has the final say on the quality of each project we deliver.
Tim McClurg
Senior Quantity Surveyor
Leading our Quantity Surveying team is Tim, with 25 years of commercial pricing experience. Tim is an integral part of the McKay Lang Team, taking responsibility for the project costing and supervising the administering of the contracted works.
Tim works closely with our operations team, and our clients, to ensure everyone is suitably updated on costs, throughout the life of the project.
Aileen McKay
Financial Controller
Aileen manages all aspects of finance at McKay Lang – and everything else that keeps the business ticking over! Bolstered by her previous years’ experience in managing accounts, Aileen runs our systems with the utmost care and precision.
To the benefit of all our clients, Aileen provides a clear and comprehensive view of each and every project, from start to finish.
On a broader level, Aileen continues to upskill and seek out opportunities to amass more knowledge. The growth of McKay Lang, both financial and otherwise, is always in full focus.
Ben Brazil
Project Manager
Project Manager, Ben, brings 25 years industry experience to McKay Lang, along with a National Certificate in Carpentry and PRINCE2 Practitioner in Project Management Certificate. His commitment to running projects seamlessly is second to none.
Additionally, Ben oversees our in-house joinery production; his attention to detail and exacting standards are essential in an industry where there is very little room for error.
The flagship Miele showroom in Christchurch holds pride of place at McKay Lang, and was nominated at the NZ Shopfitting Awards. This fitout is a fantastic example of Ben’s workmanship and management.
Dane Hughes
Project Manager
With UK and NZ experience in building, construction management, and project management, Dane is vital to the success of our projects. He holds his NZ LBP qualification, paired with extensive knowledge of the current building code and legislation.
Although he is now office-based, Dane’s first project with McKay Lang was a mammoth undertaking at the Maruia Hot Springs – a logistical and technical challenge, carried out with the finesse we’ve come to expect from Dane.
Jack Zondag
Quantity Surveyor
Jack brings over 40 years’ experience to the table, in sales, project management, estimating, and quantity surveying. With his practical knowledge and eye for detail, there isn’t much that Jack can’t handle. His connections in the construction industry are a real asset for our quantity surveying team.
In his time with McKay Lang, Jack has priced projects for Kendal Grocer, Waipara Winery, and ASB, among others.
Shannon Baker
Quantity Surveyor
Shannon is one of McKay Lang’s longest-serving staff, with an undeniable commitment to every aspect of her work. She has over 13 years experience in construction, across seismic work, contract management, project coordination, operations, and now estimating and quantity surveying.
Shannon can be relied on for her strong analytical skills. From ‘big picture’ through to minute details, Shannon lends a well-trained eye to every part of a project. No detail goes unnoticed!
At McKay Lang, Shannon’s involvement has been instrumental in a vast range of projects, most notably simultaneous Cotton On fitouts, Miele Christchurch, and structural strengthening and refurbishments at multiple Salvation Army sites.
Geri Summerhayes
Financial Support & Business Development
Geri has worked in multiple roles at McKay Lang, most recently in assisting with finance and account management.
In addition to this, Geri looks after McKay Lang’s branding and marketing, as well as workplace culture.
New Zealand Health and Safety culture is a particular interest – Geri has completed Health and Safety representative courses, as well as site-specific safety planning. These things tie in to her vision of cultivating a safety-conscious, dynamic, and progressive culture at McKay Lang .
Ries Quin
Site Foreman
Ries is a skilled Site Foreman, lending his many years’ expertise to a wide range of commercial projects.
In years past, Ries has worked on a number of high-end, bespoke, luxury fitouts—a brilliant display of his attention to detail and proficiency on the tools.
At McKay Lang, Ries specialises in retail fitouts, and has worked on fitouts for the likes of Birkenstock, Timberland, and other clothing retailers.
Rick Brady
Site Foreman
Our experienced Site Foreman, Rick, has extensive building and shopfitting knowledge, following 25 years in the industry. Rick holds a National Certificate in Carpentry and has worked nationwide across a variety of commercial fitouts.
Rick is incredibly organized on site and has a strong understanding of the Health and Safety requirements of his sites. Rick is also a fantastic problem solver with a very keen eye for detail. He has a great knowledge of all trades, and immense pride in the workmanship he and his teams produce.
Key projects for Rick include Timezone Christchurch CBD, Milford Sound Lodge, and Cotton On Mega South City.
Nik Schmutz
Site Foreman
Nik is a talented site foreman, with nearly twenty years’ experience in the construction industry. His calm and measured approach, along with wide-ranging industry knowledge makes Nik a vital and reliable member of the McKay Lang team.
With work experience in Canada and New Zealand, Nik is highly adaptable and a fantastic communicator.
Nik enjoys working in challenging spaces – Seoulmate Northlands and the conversion of a former Christchurch convent have been recent highlights!
Sam Ferguson
Site Foreman
As one our site foremen, Sam is a dynamic and enthusiastic member of the McKay Lang team. Sam’s work experience spans several industries, including forestry and farming, in addition to construction.
Sam has overseen several extensive hospitality and office de-fits in his time so far with McKay Lang.
Sam works hard for our clients, keeping costs where they should be and communication transparent throughout the life of his projects.
