Sherpa office fit-out

The Sherpa office in the Christchurch CBD is a great example of design and build working in harmony.

Managed on the client’s behalf by The Building Intelligence Group, and designed by Sheppard and Rout architects, McKay Lang was engaged for the full build on this collaborative project.

The brief for Sherpa was shaped by the type of work the team does every day. For client facing areas, they needed a space that felt clean and modern, but also comfortable, welcoming and private.

We began by dividing the large open plan area into separate zones. A large, curved partition wall was built to house a conference room and a smaller, separate meeting room, with thick insulation batts installed to cut down sound transfer and protect client privacy.

The conference room stands out with its industrial style glass and steel sliding doors, fluted wall panelling, and light, airy colour scheme. Next door, the smaller meeting room takes a different approach, with dark teal walls and sheer floor to ceiling curtains that soften the space and help dampen sound further.

For staff, Sherpa wanted a working environment people would enjoy coming into each day. Our joinery and installation teams built an ultra modern, full sized kitchen, along with a warm, welcoming dining area and lounge. We also built a large, fully upholstered seating hub with USB and power sockets wired in and a plant feature at its centre, giving staff a breakout space and clients somewhere comfortable to wait.

A small acoustic pod was another nice touch, giving staff a private space for phone and video calls. Every element we installed at Sherpa was tailored to the space and carefully considered.

This fit out was the McKay Lang difference in action: a genuinely world class office space, delivered by industry professionals who care.
